Early beginnings in Finland

Isa's basketball story started early, at the age of five, in Finland. "I started basketball pretty early; I was around five years old, actually," she recalls. The influence of her father, a lifelong basketball player, was pivotal in nurturing her passion for the sport. After moving to Luxembourg at the age of eight, Isa continued to pursue her basketball dreams.

A decade of growth in Luxembourg

Isa spent her formative years playing for two notable clubs in Luxembourg. "I started at BBC Résidence Walferdange, and then I switched to a club called Amicale Steinsel," she shares. Her time at Walferdange was particularly transformative, as she progressed from the youth teams to competing with the senior women's team. Reflecting on this period, she says: "It was a really good club; to develop myself during that time was really good."

Breakthrough with Amicale Steinsel

The 2022-2023 season marked a significant milestone in Isa's career. Moving to Amicale Steinsel, she found herself gaining more playing time and improving her skills. "It was truly amazing: the minutes I received and everything that was coming with hard work," she acknowledges. The switch brought new challenges but also greater opportunities, helping Isa to grow in confidence and capability.

Achieving new heights with the National team

Isa's talent did not go unnoticed, leading to her inclusion in the Luxembourgish youth national teams at the age of 14. Her first significant international experience came in 2016 when she played in the European Championship. "Honestly, it was such a great experience; being able to represent your own country at any level is amazing," she enthuses. Despite initial nerves, Isa delivered a commendable performance, laying the foundation for future successes.

The pinnacle of Isa's recent achievements came during the summer of 2023 with the under-18 national team of Luxembourg. The team made history by reaching the silver medal position in the tournament. "Honestly, I think the best word to describe that tournament is unbelievable," she reflects. Despite being undersized, the team's determination and hard work paid off, marking a first in Luxembourgish basketball history.

Future aspirations

Looking ahead, Isa and her team are preparing for the A Division competition in Portugal. "It's going to be the first time that Luxembourg is playing in the A Division competition," she mentions with excitement. The summer promises to be eventful and hardworking as they gear up to compete against Europe's best teams.
